SPIRIT ABSINTHE
Spirit absinthe beverage packaging project.
This mystical, spiritual green liquid was consumed by the creators of some of the world's best-known works of art. Vincent Van Gogh (Dutch painter), Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (French painter), Pablo Picasso (Spanish painter and sculptor), Oscar Wilde (Irish poet and playwright), Ernest Hemingway (American novelist), and many more, all used absinthe in the process of creating their art.
LOGO
The green liquor was particularly popular in France around the beginning of the 20th century. As this was also the time and birthplace of "Art Nouveau," my goal was to create a label was a nod to the "Art Nouveau" style, but with a more modern twist. I was inspired by the fairies that are illustrated on many labels from that time, warning consumers that drinking absinthe may cause hallucinations of creatures that do not exist. I did not illustrate a fairy herself on the label, but instead, I made a logo in the shape of fairy wings.
