PALATE DESIGN STUDIO
Palate Design Studio was birthed out of a group project with fellow student, Seda Aladjian, at Woodbury University. The purpose of the project was to create our own specialized design firm focused on a particular business sector. Once we found our area of concentration, we came up with a visual design, business plan, and marketing strategies. We collaborated to create Palate Design Studio to work with vineyards, wineries, and other associated businesses.

PROMOTIONAL ITEMS
For marketing purposes, we came up with promotional items that the firm could give away at trade shows or release quarterly to potential and existing clients. We felt wine stoppers, coasters, and bottles of wine bearing the firm’s logo would catch the attention of our intended audience.

Why palate?
The Cambridge English Dictionary defines palate as a person’s ability to taste and judge good food and wine. Palette is the curved board artists use to mix their paints. This homophone seemed to perfectly straddle the worlds of wine and design.
The word “palate” and the wine stain were chosen to provide visual links between the logo and our target audience, the wine industry.
I also wanted the logo to be realistic, so I decided to handmake part of it. I set a stemmed wine glass in wine, and then set the glass on paper to make a wine-stained ring. I later rendered the wine stains, adjusted the color, and added text to create the logo.
